nerdcore rising trailer

A little teaser for the upcoming documentary about MC Frontalot and the emerging genre of nerdcore. I saw him a year ago in San Francisco at the Edinburgh Castle and the number of people mouthing the words along with him was, well, in the 10s to 100s.

I guess you know you’ve made it as a nerd cultural object when people are making fan vids of you.

Also, if you think nerdcore is a stupid name for a genre, try blog house on for size.

mr. scruff - get a move on

Classic track with an equally classic and memorable video. I once heard Derrick Carter end his set with this track and people went nuts despite the fact that he just kind of put it on after he was done. Nuts. Like they went pecans and cashews all over the dance floor.

kearny and pine

I used to live on Pine St., and I walked through this intersection hundreds of times. I certainly remember the Bank of America building, and the buses, but I do not remember the pigeons and certainly not the funky jam theme song to this intersection.

Super 8 piece by Mike Missiaen. Funky jam, unknown.

happy birthday shakespeare

Ok. So there is some debate as to whether Shakespeare was actually born today, but he most certainly died on this day. In honor of him, here is a skit of The Beatles performing Shakespeare.

kronoform

What time is it? Time to post more videos of robots!

This is the world of Kronoform, the robot time machine that can transform. Each time you tell time.

robot cow milker

It’s Monday, and you know what that means… ROBOTS!

Today there was an insightful program on Morning Edition about the need to replace missing human labor with robots in the farming industry. Enter roboMOO, the milkinator! Suck. Suck. Suck. Suck. Repeat.

my spoon is too big

Minsuh and Dan helped to remind me of this lovely classic from animator Don Hertzfeldt, circa 1999.

I am a banana!

it’s 4:20 dude

The history of 420, as explained by High Times editor to ABC News in a 2002 interview.

And a Price is Right classic clip:

keepon - dancing to spoon

I can’t believe I missed this the first time around. We’re so super late, but it doesn’t matter because it hits two of the primary wastered categories: robots and dancing. Oh, and it’s adorable.

Keepon (which I assume was named after the lyrics from the Spoon song) was designed and built by Hideki Kozima and programmed by Marek Michalowski. More about the Beatbots at CMU.

coach z - these peoples try to fade me!

Coach Z in his breakout track, These peoples try to fade me. This song is so f’ing brilliant, I’m going to transcribe my favorite parts here:

Coach Z’s got money, but not much
Coach Z’s got money, but not much
Coach Z’s got money, but not much
I could use a dollar, I could use a couple bucks

Where my lasers at?
All the peoples try to tell me where my lasers at
And your mother tried to show me all the laser crabs
And I got a bunch of types, a bunch of laser dabs

{makes laser gun noises}

These peoples drop the BAAEERRRMM!
