jackie o speaks spanish

As part of the presidential campaign in 1960, Jackie O speaks to the Hispanic electorate. The TV show Mad Men features this clip in one of their episodes about the Nixon/Kennedy election.

monkey tuesday

Well, Gorilla Tuesday, to be more precise.

Cadbury Chocolates has come up with a completely random, “what does this have to do with chocolate anyways” film of a Gorilla drumming away to Phil Collins.

The campaign only launched a few days ago, but already there are a couple interesting remixes, proving that music can really set the tone for the video you are watching.
Here’s the same video footage using Total Eclipse of the Heart as the soundtrack:

And here is another remixed with A Skillz:

Expect to see more fun with the drumming gorilla on YouTube.

hipster olympics

Ah Williamsburg. Ah hipsters. Kind of funny. Kind of not. The sports-like motion graphics are my favorite part of this long parody.

my bologna has a first name

My last post was about filmmaker Bergman passing away this week. On the more pop-culture-meme side of things, today I’m giving tribute to Jerry Ringlien who was the creator of Oscar Meyer commericals that featured cute kids singing about sandwiches.

This campaign brought Oscar Meyer national distribution, and made bologna a popular part of many children’s lunch boxes.

This interview explains how another famous Oscar Meyer campaign, “I wish I was an Oscar Meyer Weiner” came about:

But if you think hard, really, really, hard about the meaning of the lyrics, it is a bit disturbing to want to be a hot dog.

bergman memories

One of my favorite directors, Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman passed away this week. His films are deeply philosophical, existential, twisted, and troubling, but always with jaw dropping beautiful cinematography. Persona is one of my personal favorites, with a dream-like opening that suddenly turns to nightmarish horror. The narrative follows the life of two women, an actress and her nurse; their perverse relationship has been the subject of many film theory tomes.

On a lighter note, how about a remix of Bergman’s Seventh Seal with the Clash?

RIP Bergman.

pilobolus dances for cars

Pretty, pretty, pretty. And lucky for me, Pilobolus is performing right around the corner from my house for the next month, so I’ll have to see them perform live before they go.

Not sure how it connects to Hyundai, but it is gorgeous.
